The History of Natuzzi

Beginning with Passion (1959) – In a quaint studio apartment in Taranto, Pasquale Natuzzi sowed the seeds of a global brand. With minimal resources – a second-hand sewing machine, a hammer, and a few pairs of scissors – the first Natuzzi sofas were born.

Phoenix from the Ashes (1973) – Resilience is woven into the fabric of Natuzzi. When a devastating fire consumed their factory, the undeterred spirit of Pasquale moved the team to Santeramo in Colle. Even as the workshop was still under construction, production began anew.

Stepping onto the Global Stage (1977) – While Pasquale’s global journey began in the Middle East, it was the presentation of the Navaho sofa at the Cologne international trade fair that truly announced Natuzzi’s presence on the international scene.

A Revolution Begins (1982) – What seemed like a setback in Canada turned into a golden opportunity. A chance visit to Macy’s in New York led Pasquale to introduce Natuzzi products to the American market, marking the beginning of a lasting relationship.

Reinventing the Living Room (1986) – Natuzzi reimagined the sofa – vibrant, adaptable, and approachable. This vision transformed the living room from a formal space into the heart of the home, a space to be truly lived in.

On Wall Street (1993) – Achieving the distinction of being the only non-American furniture brand listed on Wall Street, Natuzzi showcased its grandeur with an American headquarters designed to resemble the cross-section of a ship – a nod to the spirit of discovery.

Embracing Retail (2000) – The turn of the century saw Natuzzi delve deeper into the retail sphere, broadening its offerings to include furnishings and accessories, and promising a holistic interior design experience.

Mediterranean Lifestyle (2009) – Introducing the Natuzzi Italia brand line marked a pivotal chapter in Italian luxury design. A seamless blend of design, functionality, and ethics led to collaborative efforts with premier global designers.

Values at the Core

At the heart of the brand is a steadfast commitment to craftsmanship, a skill that has remained unchanged over decades. Natuzzi’s creations are born out of love and respect for nature, with a keen focus on sustainability. Ensuring creations of the highest quality, the brand employs stringent oversight at every stage of production. Innovation shines through in every piece, harmonising timeless craftsmanship with advanced techniques, creating beautiful sofas, chairs, and other furniture pieces that are a fusion of ideas, passion, and forward-thinking.
